Welcome to Milwaukee Education Center (MEC) Accelerated Middle School.  It is my distinct honor and pleasure to serve as principal of this community of learners.  Our professional staff, student body, and administration have joined together in a collaborative effort to make our school a dynamic institution.  At MEC we value our partnership with parents, families, students, and the community.  We believe that this collaboration enhances effective teaching and learning.  Furthermore, it embraces a positive environment to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our diverse student body. 

The Milwaukee Education Center Accelerated Middle School first opened its doors in September of 1992, in a historic building in the Schlitz Park area just north of downtown Milwaukee.  Our school specializes in an accelerated curriculum for all students including our bilingual and special education students.  At MEC, the emphasis on academic excellence is reflected in the strong Pre-High School curriculum exemplified by the Accelerated Schools Plus Model.  In grades six and seven, students are given the foundation that prepares them for the rigorous Pre-High School Academy curriculum.  Upon entering the eighth grade, our students have made the transition into the Pre-High School Academy.  Here teachers provide intensive preparation for the social and academic challenges of high school. Through the use of current best practices such as flexible scheduling, infusion of technology throughout the curriculum, and opportunities to experience fine arts and vocational education, our students develop the skills necessary for the 21st century and beyond. 

In keeping with our tradition of being an innovative school, we became the first middle school in Milwaukee to operate under the guidelines of the Year Round School calendar. As principal of MEC, my goal is to continue with our rich tradition yet strive for academic and professional excellence.  I am proud of our culturally rich student body, our talented faculty, and our excellent support staff.  Together these groups bring PRIDE to Milwaukee Education Center Accelerated Middle School.  Their daily actions exemplify our motto, "Where Children Come to Learn and Leave Prepared”.  We are headed on a mission to greatness.  Please take time to learn more about MEC and I am sure you will make the decision to join us on our quest.
