Study at
Western
Wyoming Community College
Welcome
to Western Wyoming Community College. We are located in Rock
Springs, Wyoming, a safe, rural town in the least populated
(but ninth largest in size!) state in the U.S. With 22,000
residents, Rock Springs is the fourth largest town in
Wyoming. Wyoming is known as the “Equality State” and the
“Cowboy State.” Our closest cities are Salt Lake City, Utah
(180 miles or 290 kilometers) and Denver, Colorado (350
miles or 560 kilometers).

Western Wyoming Community College was established in 1959 as
a comprehensive community college. With 3400 students, we
offer transfer and occupational programs to students from
Wyoming, the United States, and the world. About 70% of our
students are in transfer programs. They complete two years
of course work with us and then transfer without difficulty
to colleges and universities throughout the United States.
You should consider WWCC because:
We offer transfer degrees, occupational degrees and
certificate programs.
We have small classes--an average class size of 20 students.
Our classes are taught by fully qualified instructors (not
teaching assistants).
We have many opportunities for international students
including free tutoring, field trips with specific classes,
counseling services, a host family program, and an
outstanding ESL program.

The ESL Program
The ESL program concentrates on preparing students to speak,
write and understand the English language at a level that
allows them to succeed in regular college coursework taught
in English. Students also learn helpful study techniques for
attending college in the United States.
ESL classes begin in August and January.
The fall session begins in August. ESL fall courses include:
English as a Second Language (writing and grammar),
Non-Native Conversation, U.S. Culture and Communication,
Business English, and other self-paced courses. The spring
session begins in January. ESL spring courses include: All
fall courses and Non-Native Pronunciation.
If the student's English skills have developed sufficiently,
they can begin regular college coursework after one semester
of ESL. If they still need English development, the student
may take further ESL coursework or a combination of ESL and
regular coursework.
An open lab is also available for students who wish to
continue to work on specific areas on their own.
