Auburn University's main campus is a public university located in Auburn, Alabama, with over 23, 000 students. It is the largest university in Alabama. It offers degrees in 13 schools and colleges at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels. In U. S. News and World Report's issue of America's Best Colleges 2006, AU was ranked 39th among public universities nationwide. AU was ranked as “Best Value” by the Princeton Review. Money Magazine and Kiplinger's Personal Finance rank AU as top university in the state of Alabama for educational value. It is also known for its rocket science program, as six of its graduates are NASA astronauts, and two AU alumni were also the past directors for the Kennedy Space Center. The sports teams of Auburn are nicknamed the ‘Tigers. 'Auburn's athletic teams compete in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), one of the most competitive athletic conferences in America.
