University of Alaska Anchorage

School of Engineering

A Note From The Dean United States Universities, Colleges and SchoolsIt's great to be here at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), where the School of Engineering offers a number of exceptional programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Many opportunities exist for internships and research, both of which add a valuable dimension to an integrated learning experience. The School of Engineering's student organizations offer exciting opportunities for networking and having fun, both with other students and with practicing professionals. Students can participate in professional societies such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Geomatics Student Association (GSA), the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The Alaska Native Student Engineering Program (ANSEP) is a national model of academic success, with students from native communities throughout Alaska. The fully accredited Civil Engineering undergraduate program can lead you to a new career as a licensed Civil Engineer. Faculty with a broad range of both academic and practical experience teach courses that span not only all the traditional areas of Civil Engineering structural, water resources, transportation, geotechnical, and environmental, but also specialized graduate courses related to cold regions engineering. The Geomatics program offers a comprehensive set of surveying, mapping, photogrammetry, and geographic information systems courses that you won't find at other universities. You can choose an associate degree, a fully accredited bachelor's degree, or a certificate program any one of which is sure to advance your professional career. Faculty in the program range from practicing land surveyors to researchers involved in a wide variety of engineering, natural resource, and health studies projects. Graduate programs in environmental engineering and science will provide you the tools necessary to tackle challenging problems in maintaining a healthy environment while developing and using our natural resources. The tools learned can be applied anywhere, and indeed are often applied in hands-on learning opportunities based on real-world Alaskan projects. Many engineers and other professionals discover several years after graduation that they are called upon to manage increasingly complex and challenging projects, without sufficient formal training. Those looking for leadership roles are finding that UAA's engineering and science management graduate programs (ESM) provide the necessary catalyst for a successful career as a project manager. UAA also has two year programs in electrical and mechanical engineering that are fully linked with University of Alaska Fairbanks four year programs. So welcome to UAA's School of Engineering, where You'll find a diverse, enthused, and engaged student body and faculty, and a warm and welcoming environment. We hope to hear from you soon!
