Study at California State University Long BeachCalifornia State University, Long Beach, popularly referred to as CSULB was initially established as a state college in 1949. It acquired university status in 1972 and currently enrolls over 36, 000 students. CSULB offers more than 80 undergraduate degrees, 60 master's degrees, 10 education-related credential programs, and several doctoral degrees in 7 academic colleges:
CSULB has over 15 sports teams including baseball, cross country, softball, track and field, tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, water polo and golf teams. The mascot for the teams is Prospector Pete, and the teams go by the official name of 49ers. The unofficial name of the baseball team is the Dirtbags. The CSULB sports teams are also popularly called The Beach.
