University of California - Santa Cruz, also known as UC Santa Cruz or UCSC, is a public institution located in Santa Cruz, California. It offers admission to over 13, 000 students annually. Students granted admission can opt for programs in conservation and resource management, photography and commercial art, art studies, liberal arts and science. The sports teams of UC Santa Cruz are nicknamed the Banana Slugs. Sammy the Slug is the official mascot of the sports teams. Sports programs are offered in men's and women's volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming and diving, water polo, women's golf, and women's cross country. There are also some successful club-side teams such as a men's lacrosse team and a women's rugby team.
