The university's sports teams are known as the Pioneers. The official mascot of SHU's sports teams is Big Red the Pioneer. Men's teams at SHU participate in baseball, basketball, cross country, fencing, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling. Women take part in basketball, bowling, cross country, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field and volleyball. The University also has a cheerleader squad.
