Study at East Georgia College

East Georgia College is one of the newest institutions in the University System of Georgia. Located in Swainsboro, a town of 8,000 people, the college prepares students for successful educational opportunities at colleges and universities throughout the state.

More than 1,300 traditional and non-traditional students attend the commuter college, which serves a rural, 18-county region with a predominately agricultural and manufacturing economy. Women are in the majority and the student body is diverse, with a 35% minority enrollment. While the campus is known as a commuter college, off-campus housing facilities for students are available.

The campus itself spreads over 227 pine-covered acres in Emanuel County and features a unique blend of seven modern buildings in a pastoral setting. Between classes or on weekends, students, faculty and staff enjoy the scenic lake, a series of nature trails, lighted tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts and a soccer field. While the main campus is located in Swainsboro, the college has an off-campus site at Statesboro.

East Georgia College offers, at an affordable cost, 23 associate of arts degrees designed for transfer to four-year institutions. In addition, the college offers cooperative associate of applied science degree programs, as well as a certificate in information technology.

The college has a strong community service orientation, offering facilities for community meetings, industrial workshops, training sessions, basketball, wrestling, and tennis tournaments, annual regional seminars, arts festivals and science camps. The importance of the college to the region is signified by the outstanding community relationship and the 20,000 area citizens served each year.

Students have a myriad of opportunities for extra-curricular pursuits through the 25 campus organizations. Field trips, lectures, films, concerts, art shows, museums, and drama productions, combined with a comprehensive student activities program, enhance the total learning experience and prepare students for tomorrow's challenges. The college is a place where each student is appreciated and alumni are to be found among the ranks of teachers, doctors, lawyers, dentists, judges, pharmacists, engineers, business men and women who all began their careers at this educational magnet in southeast Georgia.

East Georgia College was founded in 1971 and enrolled its first students in 1973.
