Study at Gordon College Georgia

Gordon College is a residential state college located on 134 tree-lined acres in the quiet middle Georgia town of Barnesville. From its founding as a seminary for men and women in 1852, Gordon College has grown in response to the educational needs of its community.

Some 3,600 students are enrolled at Gordon College, the majority of them from Georgia, but as many as 38 different countries are represented in its student body. The small, close knit campus ensures that students receive a high-degree of personal attention from instructors. Approximately 800 students live in on-campus housing, and the majority of other students commute from the south metro Atlanta counties of Fayette, Henry, Clayton, and Spalding.

Gordon College offers 39 associate degrees in the liberal arts and humanities, agriculture, business, sciences, and the allied health fields, and a baccalaureate degree in early childhood education. Students who graduate with an associate's degree may transfer to any of the four-year colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia. Students also may enroll in cooperative degree programs in cooperation with local technical colleges. The College offers a highly regarded program in nursing and students may enroll for the two-year associate degree in nursing or earn a bachelor's degree offered in cooperation with the Medical College of Georgia.

Gordon College also offers courses in Fayetteville, Griffin, Jackson and McDonough. It boasts a strong college foundation which awards scholarships to talented students and an active alumni association.

The campus includes a state-of-the-art science and technology center, a 500-seat Fine Arts Auditorium, apartment-style and traditional housing options, a wooded walking trail, outdoor amphitheater for concerts and movies, and an expansive sports complex.

Students may participate in a variety of clubs, organizations and activities, including student government, sports, and the arts. Each spring, the College stages the Highlander Games where students try their luck at ancient Scottish athletic events. The College competes in men's and women's soccer, baseball, fast-pitch softball and men's and women's tennis as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

After its initial beginnings as a seminary, the College became one of the nation's premier military institutions. Gordon Military College trained young men, stressing leadership, scholarship and service and its alumni may be found in every state of the union, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and in many Latin American countries. The College became a member of the University System of Georgia in 1972, as an associate-level college and was granted state college status in 2006.
