| Study at Macon State College Georgia
Day and evening classes for full- and part-time study are offered on three campuses. The 167-acre main campus, located in the city of Macon, is served by a fiber optics network which connects more than 600 computers linking students, faculty and staff. The main campus also has 13 major buildings including a library, arts complex and a new student life center. Other major academic buildings are devoted to health sciences, humanities, information technology, natural sciences and math, and the social sciences. The Robins Resident Center, located at Robins Air Force Base, serves military and civilian employees. The Warner Robins Campus, opened in 2003, extends the reach and services of the college and is strategically positioned to further serve the professional workforce needs of Robins. More than 2,000 take classes at the Warner Robins Campus. More than 6,200 traditional and non-traditional students commute to Macon State College, primarily from a seven-county area in Central Georgia. Their average age is 27. Minority students account for about one-third of the student population. While recognized for its strength in professionally oriented bachelor?s degree programs, Macon State continues its focus on a strong foundation in liberal arts and its success in connecting with the region through innovative partnerships with area business, industry and government. The college is a key player in the economic development of Central Georgia and a principle provider of talent to support the economic, social and cultural vitality of the region. Students have many opportunities to participate in activities outside of class. The college has more than 20 student organizations including professional and honor societies, student government and student media. The college frequently brings guests lecturers, artists, performers and musicians to the campus. Most events are open to the community. Macon Junior College was chartered in 1965 to serve the rapidly growing mid-state area. In 1968, the college opened with 1,110 students, the largest charter class for an institution of higher education in the state's history. The college formally became Macon State College in 1997.
