Study at South Georgia College

South Georgia College is a two-year college focused on a core of strong teaching and personalized academic advising. It has a long and distinguished tradition of service to the people of Georgia. It was founded in 1906 in the town of Douglas and sits on 190 acres in this rural southeast Georgia town.

South Georgia's nearly 1,300 students come primarily from southeastern and south central Georgia, but the college's residential facilities enable the institution to draw students from other regions of the state, neighboring states and foreign countries. The average age of students is 24-years-old, and 60 percent are women.

Students pursue associate degrees in 23 majors which transfer to other institutions, and associate degrees and certificate programs in 10 majors designed to prepare them for careers in nursing, business and information systems. The college's Nightingale Mobile Clinic allows South Georgia College's nursing students to develop strong clinical skills and the ability to function as members of an interdisciplinary team while they work side-by-side with college faculty to deliver primary health care in a community setting. The school also offers students the opportunity to study abroad. Students may study in London while living with British families and taking courses at the University of London. South Georgia College students go on to attend four-year institutions within Georgia and outside the state with an excellent foundation in the core curriculum.

Outside of class, students can participate in a wide range of activities, cultural events and intercollegiate sports including baseball, soccer and softball. The campus serves as a cultural and athletic hub for area residents and for students. The college is well located for fun and relaxation - Georgia's Golden Isles are only 90 minutes away and Jacksonville, Florida is a two-hour drive.

South Georgia College was founded as the Eleventh District Agriculture and Mechanical School. In 1927, South Georgia College became the first state-supported two-year college in Georgia and four years later emerged as one of the original institutions of the University System of Georgia.
