Dominican University, also known as DU, is a private, coeducational, Catholic institution of higher learning and research located in River Forest, Illinois, United States. It was established in 1901 as St. Clara College by the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters. After a few name and status changes, it was renamed Dominican University in 1997. The university offers several bachelor degrees, master degrees, and certificate programs in diverse Course Topics. Dominican offers over 50 majors in arts and sciences and more than 17 degrees in graduate programs. Dominican is renowned for its arts and sciences programs . Dominican University was founded in 1901 as St. Clara College in Sinsinawa, WI. One of the first women's universities in the U. S. to provide a complete curriculum including studies in math and science, the institute was renamed Rosary College in 1922, the same year it was relocated to its current home in River Forest, IL (just outside Chicago). Rosary College became coeducational in 1970, and its name was once again changed, in 1977, to Dominican University. In addition to its numerous on-campus degree programs, Dominican today offers an array of Master of Arts in Education degrees which can be earned completely online. The online degree programs follow the same curriculum, employ the same nationally recognized faculty, use the same textbooks, and culminate in the same degrees awarded to on-campus students. The University's online program is coordinated in partnership with the University Alliance, the largest facilitator of e-learning in the nation. Dominican handles all academic issues including grades, assignments, testing and academic advising. The University Alliance Online assists with Enrolment, program technology support and distribution of all educational materials including books, study guides, online classroom and CD-ROM lectures.
