Study at Illinois State University


Founded in 1857, Illinois State University is a public university located in Normal, Illinois. It is the oldest public institution of higher education in the state. It was originally formed as a teachers college and later grew to become a university offering a range of programs at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels.

ISU is recognized by the US News rankings as a "National University" which grants a variety of doctoral degrees and strongly emphasizes research. It comprises six colleges:

  • Mennonite College of Nursing
ISU's athletic teams are nicknamed Redbirds. They are members of the Missouri Valley Conference and the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The university owns a public radio station, WGLT, and two newspapers - The Daily Vidette and The Indy.
