University of Illinois at Chicago is a state-funded public research university located in Chicago, Illinois. It was initially established as the Chicago College of Pharmacy in 1859. The University of Illinois was then chartered in 1867, in Champaign-Urbana, as the state's land-grant university. Finally, in 1961, several medical schools in Illinois joined the university forming the institution as we see it today. It currently offers admission to over 20, 000 students every year. The school offers majors in mathematics, science, and medicine. The university's sports teams are referred to as the UIC Flames. Sparky D. Dragon is the official mascot of the team.
