It was established in 1837 by the Methodist Church as Indiana Asbury University. The university became coeducational in 1867. It settled on its present name in 1884. The campus spreads across an area of more than 690 acres and has 36 major buildings. It also operates a radio station called WGRE.
DePauw University competes in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. Their sports teams are known as the Tigers. The sports teams include men's and women's baseball, football, soccer, softball, basketball, swimming and diving, cross county, track and field, golf, tennis, and volleyball.
