Study at Coppin State University


Coppin State University, established in 1900, is a historically black college. Originally founded as the Colored High School, the name was later changed to Douglass High School. It was renamed to Fanny Jackson Coppin Normal School in 1926 and to Coppin Teachers College in 1938. It became Coppin State Teachers College in 1950 and gained university status in 1988. The university is also known as CSU the campus covers more than 50 acres in Baltimore, Maryland. It is a part of the University System of Maryland and is made up of the following academic units:

  • School of Arts and Sciences
  • School of Education
  • School of Graduate Studies
  • School of Management Science and Economics
  • School of Professional Studies
CSU takes part in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The sports teams are called the Eagles and participate in men's baseball, track, cross country, basketball, and tennis; and women's basketball, cross country, bowling, softball, track, tennis, and volleyball.

Many applicants are from out of state, an indication of the quality or special character of the school.
