The University of Maryland College Park, also referred to as UMCP or simply Maryland, is a public coeducational research university. It is located in the city of College Park in Prince George County, Maryland, outside Washington D. C. The school was established in 1856. It currently grants admission to over 30, 000 students annually. The school is well known for its degree courses in science and engineering.

University of Maryland College Park's sports teams are known as the Terrapins. The official mascot of the sports team is Testudo, the Maryland diamondback terrapin. The university's athletics department fields teams in track and field, football, basketball, and baseball.
