Maryville University of St. Louis , also referred to as Maryville, was established in the year 1872 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart as an academy for women. In 1923 it became a four-year college and in 1991 it gained university status. It is one of the oldest private universities in the St. Louis , Missouri area. The campus spreads across an area of more than 250 acres. The college offers a wide range of courses, majors, and minors in diverse Course Topics. Maryville University's athletics department fields several men's and women's sports teams. Their sports teams are known as the Saints. Maryville is a member of the NCAA Division III and competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
