Study at Hobart William Smith International Colleges

Hobart College was established in 1822 as the Geneva College. In 1852, it was named Hobart College in honor of its founder, Episcopal bishop John Henry Hobart. The William Smith School for Women was founded in 1908 by nurseryman William Smith. These two started sharing facilities and the first joint commencement was organized in 1922. In 1943, they established a joint corporate identity and began to be referred to as Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Legally, the combined corporation is known as The Colleges of the Seneca. This liberal arts college is situated on a 188-acre campus in Geneva, New York.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges offers bachelor’s degrees in arts and science, and master’s degrees in teaching. Students can choose from over 40 majors and more than 60 minors. There are also several research projects, service learning and internships, and study abroad programs on offer.

The sports teams of Hobart College are known as the Statesmen while the William Smith College’s teams are nicknamed the Herons. The students participate in basketball, cross country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rowing, sailing, soccer, squash, tennis, field hockey, and swimming and diving. Both the Statesmen and the Herons have won a significant number of national championships.
