Study at Marymount Manhattan CollegeMarymount Manhattan College, or MMC, was established as a women’s college in 1936. Originally an extension of Marymount College, Tarrytown, MMC was founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. It moved to its present location in Upper East Side of Manhattan in 1948. This private coeducational liberal arts institute MMC s recent enrolments have been more than 2,000 students.Students of Marymount Manhattan College can choose from over 15 majors and more than 30 minors. MMC s is divided into the following academic divisions:
MMC sponsors a large number of clubs and organizations. Among them include the Alpha Chi Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, Black and Latino Student Association Marymount Literary Society, Mock Trial Club, and Musical Theatre Association. The campus newspaper published by the students is called “The Monitor”. Profile of Marymount Manhattan College The campus of Marymount is in New York, NY, which is a large city. The school is a private, not-for-profit institution. Degrees at Marymount include, at the school s highest level, the Bachelor s degree. Course Topics The school has a greater breadth of degree programs (majors) than most colleges of its size. Marymount is known for its programs in media, drama and performing arts, and fine arts. Marymount Selectivity Admission at the school is selective, not open to all who apply. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 490. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 470 and 560. Faculty The school has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty at Marymount is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality. Student enrolment In 2007, the school had 1,895 students enrolled (1,703 full-time equivalent).
