The University of
Rochester, or UR, is a private, nonsectarian, coeducational, research university
located in Rochester, New York. It was established in 1850. The U. S. News and
World Report (2008 edition) ranked the University of Rochester 35th in the
entire nation in their popular National University Rankings. The university
confers undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional degrees through the

UR’s official mascot is the Yellowjacket. The university’s sports teams
compete in the NCAA s Division III.
