North Carolina A and T State University, also known as NC A&T, was founded as a mechanical college on March 9, 1891. The college was founded as a largely African-American school. North Carolina A and T State University is a land-grant university and has over 10, 000 students. It was previously known as “The Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race”. More than 90 undergraduate degrees, and over 50 masters degrees and post-graduate degrees are offered here.

North Carolina A and T State University is one of the members of NCAA Division I Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The athletics teams of NC A&T are nicknamed the “Aggies”. Football, basketball, volleyball, track, baseball, softball, tennis, swimming, and bowling are sponsored by the college. Reverend Jesse Jackson, economist James A. Hefner, and astronaut and mission specialist Ronald McNair are the notable alumni of this university.
