The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, also referred to as UNC, is a public, coeducational, research university located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. It is the flagship of the University of North Carolina system. It was established in 1789. The main campus of UNC is spread across a sprawling landscape of 729 acres. UNC offers more than 70 bachelor, over 100 master, and over 70 doctoral degree programs in diverse Course Topics.

The athletics teams of UNC participate in a wide variety of sports. They are nicknamed the Tar Heels. They compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and Atlantic Coast Conference. Some of the notable alumni of this university are Frank Bruni, food critic for the ‘New York Times'; Hayden Carruth, poet and winner of the National Book Award; and Louise Fletcher, actress.
