Founded in 1888 as Saint Thomas College by the first bishop of Scranton, the University of Scranton is a Catholic and Jesuit university which has graduated more than 38, 000 students over its storied history. Located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the University has been ranked as one of the top 10 Master's Universities in the North for the past 11 years by U. S. News and World Report. The University currently offers two online Master's degree programs designed for working teachers looking to earn their graduate degree in a convenient manner. Students in the online programs have the flexibility to "attend class" whenever they want and the benefits of being taught by the same professors who teach on campus and earning the same advanced degree as on-campus students.

Course Topics

Two online Masters of Science Degree Programs are offered by the University. They are:
  • MS-Curriculum and Instruction: This program is designed for educators to strengthen their instructional skills and leadership abilities. Topics covered include contemporary instructional technology, student learning, and the latest in instructional design. Graduates will be better prepared to serve in their current teaching positions and will learn how to become more inspiring teachers. A total of 12 courses (36 credit hours) are required.
  • MS-Educational Administration: This program gives educators the skills needed to become exceptional leaders. Topics addressed include general school administration, comprehensive supervision principles, school finance and law, organization in a democratic society, and administration of instruction and personnel. A total of 13 courses (39 credit hours) are required.
The University of Scranton Admissions

The application process can be done largely online and can be started by contacting the Graduate Admissions office. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution; however, the degree need not be in education. A valid teaching certificate is also required for applicants to either degree program.
