Study at University of Rhode Island

The University of Rhode Island, also known as URI, is the principal public research university located in the State of Rhode Island. It was founded in 1892. The main campus is situated in Kingston, Rhode Island. In 2008, U. S. News and World Report ranked URI in its list of best colleges and gave it a selective rating. The university is organized into the following academic divisions:

URI's official mascot is named Rhody the Ram. Their sports teams are nicknamed the Rams.

URI Selectivity

Admission to URI is not automatic; not everyone who applies gets in. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 470. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 480 and 590.

URI has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty at the school is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality.

The school offers dorm rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges. URI values student athletics, and belongs to the Atlantic 10 Conference.
