Study at Francis Marion University


Francis Marion University was established in 1970 and named after Brigadier General Francis Marion, the American Revolutionary War hero. It was originally called Francis Marion College and gained university status in 1992. The university is located in Florence, South Carolina, and enrolls more than 4, 000 students annually. The university has two schools and one college under it, which are:

  • College of Liberal Arts
  • School of Business
  • School of Education
The athletics program of Francis Marion University is under the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference and has twelve member schools. The school sponsors 7 women's sports – basketball, soccer, cross country, tennis, softball, volleyball and track and field, as well as 7 men's sports – basketball, baseball, golf, soccer, cross country, track and field, and tennis.
