The college was founded by the Sisters of Saint Benedict of Yankton in 1936. It was initially known as Mount Marty Junior College. The college has two other campuses at Watertown and Sioux Falls. The 80-acre main campus at Yankton offers majors, minors, honors and graduate degree programs. The Course Topics include business and social sciences, humanities, nursing, education, and natural sciences. Mount Marty College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The athletics teams of MMC are nicknamed as the Lancers.
