Study at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology


The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, also referred to as SDSM&T or just Mines, was established in 1885. It is a public college located in Rapid City, South Dakota. The campus of the institution is spread across an area of 120 acres. SDSM&T provides degree programs in mostly technical fields. The degrees are offered in more than 15 different streams of science and engineering. Over 10 master's degree programs and several doctorate programs are also available here. The institution is organized into two colleges:

  • The College of Science and Letters
The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology 's athletics department fields a number of men's and women's sports teams that compete in Dakota Athletic Conference and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The teams are nicknamed the Hardrockers, and they participate in sports including basketball, football, cross country, and golf.
