Amarillo College or AC is a two year fully accredited community college situated in Amarillo, Texas. The college was established in the year 1929 as Amarillo Junior College. Prior the establishment of AC, Amarillo was the largest Texas City without a public college. AC became the first Texas junior college district to be organized independent of a school district on July 16, 1929. The College moved to its main campus on Washington Street in the year 1937. Today, Amarillo College has a total of six campuses. Some of the notable graduates of AC are medal of honor recipient John C. Morgan, former United States Secretary of the Treasury G. William Miller, and Susan Gibson, songwriter who wrote "Wide Open Spaces".
