In 1958, it was renamed to Angelo State College. In 1969, it was finally renamed to its present name. The University campus stretches over more than 250 acres of urban land. The men's and women's sports teams of the university are known as the Rams and Rambelles respectively. The official mascot of the University is Dominic. Students compete in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball.
