Study at Southern Utah University

Southern Utah University is situated in Cedar City, Utah. SUU was founded by the citizens of Cedar City in 1897. The school was initially named Branch Normal School. Over the years, it underwent five name changes and finally settled on its present name. SUU has now evolved into a comprehensive, regional university which offers a range of graduate, baccalaureate, associate and technical programs. Southern Utah University is divided into the following academic colleges and schools:

  • College of Performing and Visual Arts

  • School of Continuing and Professional Studies
SUU awards Associate, Bachelors and Masters Degrees. There are a number of clubs and student organizations on campus, including 4 recognized Greek service organizations. SUU's sports teams are called the Thunderbirds. They compete in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision in football, and in Division I in other sports. Some of the notable alumni of SUU are Michael O. Leavitt, the 14th Governor of Utah, and Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader representing the State of Nevada.
