Learning Support Programme
The Tashkent International School, an IB World School, was founded in 1994 and encompasses Pre-School through 12th grade, with a college preparatory high school. It is a non-for-profit independent organization, which is operated under the direction of a parent-elected Board of Trustees. It is the only international school in Central Asia to be accredited by both CIS and NEASC; it is also a member of CEESA. The international curriculum serves the English-speaking and international communities in Tashkent. The school currently offers the IB Diploma, US College Board Pre-SAT, SAT, TOEFL , and ISA. The school is undergoing the development of a new five-year strategic plan commencing August 2010 that includes facilities and campus development, expansion of college preparatory courses in high school and significant improvements in the fields of Technology, mother-tongue language acquisition and library programs.

TIS was authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme in May 2006 and became a PYP Authorized School in May 2008; the school is currently undergoing authorization for the MYP. Instruction, in the English language, takes advantage of small class sizes and the diverse educational backgrounds of the students. Courses include English, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, IT, art and music. English as a Second or Other Foreign Languages (Russian, French, Korean) are also provided.

The international staff currently includes teachers from the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, Turkey, New Zealand, Ireland, India, France, South Africa, Russia, Korea, the Netherlands and Uzbekistan. All teachers hold university degrees and/or teaching certificates.

The academic year extends from late August until early June on a four-quarter basis. There is a three-week holiday in winter and an one-week holiday in both the spring and autumn. The school is housed in a new facility in extensive landscaped grounds in the suburbs of Tashkent. Facilities include state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs, science labs, two indoor gymnasia, black-box theatre, and an auditorium. The grounds include soccer fields, volleyball and basketball courts, an athletic track and park-like recreation areas.

There is an extensive after-school program that includes soccer, volleyball and basketball, drama, music, theatre, dance, art, Model UN, Newspaper/ Yearbook, CAS, Archery, Korean Language, Student Council and Speech and Debate. Admission is open to all children who are within the age range and for whom the school can offer an appropriate education as determined by interview and placement testing. Conversational ability in English is required at upper levels. The school aims to provide an educational environment with a respect for all nationalities and cultures.
